The NRMN Phase II common dataset brings together data collected from 2019 to 2024 across 11 independent studies within the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN). This multi-study common measures dataset includes participant demographics, career stages, prior training program participation, and other measures designed to assess mentorship, career development, professional networking, and related outcomes.
As one of the largest and most diverse training data in biomedical research, this dataset provides a unique opportunity to explore key patterns and insights, such as how specific mentorship practices influence career outcomes for diverse groups.
A detailed descriptive analysis can be found in Characteristics of Participants in the National Research Mentoring Network Studies (Hyun et al., 2025). The dataset will be archived at the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), part of the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan, and is expected to be publicly available by early 2026. Meanwhile, the NRMN Coordination Center (CC) maintains a copy of the dataset. If you are interested in accessing the data before its public release, please contact So Hee Hyun (shyun6@wisc.edu).
Intervention Timelines

This figure represents the intervention timelines across the 11 NRMN studies. We include this here to note the complexity of the data, especially when trying to compare data across interventions.
Planned Data Collection Timelines

[Note] This figure represents the planned time points for data collection across the 11 NRMN studies that were reported to the NRMN Coordination Center. We include this visual to note the complexity of the data and the differences across studies. Timelines were subject to change throughout the grant.
Survey Responses
Survey Distribution
29,345 surveys were administered across the 11 NRMN studies from December 2019 to June 2024.
Response Rate
20,260 survey responses were collected through June 2024, for an overall response rate of 69.0%.
This data represents the survey distribution numbers that were reported to the NRMN Coordination Center. These numbers represent all survey responses, including those not added to the common measure dataset. We include this information to note the large scope of this project. Note that studies used different criteria for defining and reporting responses, such as whether or not partial responses were included. This influences the combined response counts and response rate presented here.
